As James Taylor's Rangers exit is confirmed, what could it mean for West Ham?

West Ham United could get a chance to pounce as James Taylor has officially stepped down from his position at Rangers.

Taylor worked as Rangers' chief financial officer for the past three years.

His departure was confirmed by Rangers on their official website on Wednesday, with the decision said to be "mutual".

Taylor was recently linked with a similar role at West Ham while in the Ibrox job.

Rangers added it "is the right time for [Taylor] to pursue new opportunities".

That recent speculation, combined with this announcement, could see some pieces fall into place.

The Sun report on Taylor's links to West Ham, but it is not known if his departure from Rangers is in any way linked.

It would certainly make sense, though, and he appears to have the credentials based on his CV.

As well as spending three years at a big British club in Rangers, Taylor has also worked in senior roles with Mastercard, Barclays and Zonal.

West Ham are closing in on hiring Nils Koppen as their new transfer chief, but this is a separate role.

The turmoil left behind by David Sullivan's exit is being felt, but things could finally be starting to fall into place.

West Ham transfer plates spinning even in absence of transfer chief

West Ham's Championship season gets going in around six weeks' time.

Players are exiting but it has been far quieter in terms of incoming activity so far.

That is not to say there is not any movement behind the scenes, though, as Anthony Musaba is the latest to be linked with West Ham.

The Fenerbahce winger looks a real talent, but you have to wonder who is leading the transfer plans right now.

Nuno Espirito Santo will no doubt be having a say, but he could do with having other appointments locked in before too long to avoid some muddied thinking.

Everyone needs to be pulling in one direction if West Ham are to escape the Championship at the first time of asking, from those behind the scenes to the man front and centre of it all in Nuno.
