Yarmolenko predicted to start for West Ham v Leeds United amid January exit speculation - pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Andriy Yarmolenko will play for West Ham in their FA Cup Third Round clash with Leeds United at the London Stadium on Sunday, according to Frank McAvennie.

Yarmolenko, 32, has been linked with a move away from the London Stadium this month, with ExWHUemployee reporting on 29 December that the Irons will listen to offers for the Ukraine international.

David Moyes has sparsely used Yarmolenko this season and McAvennie feels as though the Hammers boss will be debating whether to sell him before the January transfer window closes.

“Yarmolenko has been a bit-part player, playing out wide and up front but he’s never set the world on fire,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.

“It’s a shame for the boy because he’s a talent but maybe he’ll have to leave. He won’t be happy to be not getting game-time.

I would like to see him go somewhere for the boy’s sake because he’s not going to get enough time on the pitch.

I like him as a player but maybe sometimes, because he’s not getting in the first-team, he may be trying too hard when he does get a game and sometimes that’s not the right way to do it.

He’s got ability so he’ll play [against Leeds], but whether he’s to be put in the shop window or not, I think David Moyes is in two minds on whether to let him go or not.

But if he puts him in, he plays well and someone comes in for him then it’s all good.”

Yarmolenko joined West Ham from Borussia Dorrtmund in 2018.

He’s since made 71 appearances in all competitions for the London club, scoring 11 goals in the process.

The Ukrainian forward has made 17 of those outings this season but he’s mainly been used as a substitute, starting zero games in the Premier League.

In other West Ham news, an “extraordinary” offer could see the Irons bag this centre-back in January.
