West Ham’s stance on George Earthy’s contract revealed following injury update

George Earthy suffered another injury setback last week and is expected to be out for up to ten weeks.

The midfielder suffered a hamstring problem in Nuno Espirito Santo’s first training session at Rush Green, after returning from injury over the summer.

Earthy missed West Ham’s preseason trip to America in the summer due to an ankle injury, which kept him out until September.

Following his latest setback, Earthy is set to miss ties against Liverpool and Manchester United, and his injury record could affect the Hammers’ decision on whether to offer him a new contract.

George Earthy’s injury won’t affect West Ham contract decision – injury expert

Earthy turned down Championship loan offers to stay and fight for his place at West Ham over the summer, having been encouraged by Graham Potter.

The midfielder failed to play much football under the 50-year-old, which was bizarre given the poor form of James Ward-Prowse in claret and blue.

Earthy had looked to benefit from Nuno’s arrival, but his hamstring injury will damage hopes of making the first team in the future.

With less than 12 months remaining on his contract, concerns had been raised about whether he would be offered a new deal given his recent setback.

However, injury specialist Dr Brar believes Earthy will still be offered a new contract despite being out for 10 weeks.

Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Dr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said: “As long as everything goes to plan, I reckon he will need a few weeks to really ramp up and be competing with the first team again.

“However, due to his age, the physios may be more cautious with him. He has a relatively good injury history prior to this, so I don’t believe this injury will influence the club’s contract decision-making too much.

When is George Earthy set to return for West Ham?

Nuno showed against the Toffees that he is prepared to give youngsters an opportunity to impress at West Ham.

Freddie Potts came on for the last 30 minutes and completed more tackles (2) on Jack Grealish than any other player.

If Earthy can stay within his timeline and return within ten weeks, he could be ready to feature in either the visit to Brighton on 6 December or the game against Aston Villa a week later.

That way, he will be given plenty of opportunity to prove himself and earn an improved contract before it expires.
