West Ham Women's expert makes 'top four' claim after defeat v Manchester City
We’re delighted to welcome Michelle Irons as our exclusive West Ham Women expert. Each week she’ll be giving her views on the biggest talking points at Victoria Road…
West Ham United Women’s expert Michelle Irons believes the top four teams in the WSL are “miles ahead” of the rest of the league.
The Hammers suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on 15 January, however, the score probably flattered Konchesky’s side.
Irons felt City’s front three players stood out in the win and believes there’s a big gap between the “so-called” top four sides.
“West Ham have changed their style this season and they like to keep the ball and make teams work for possession. However, against teams that bring that high tempo, misplaced passes can cause dangerous situations,” Irons exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“Manchester City took control in their 1-0 win with their impressive front three standing out, Mackenzie Arnold was resilient between the sticks to keep the score down.

“West Ham tried to frustrate City but when Bunny Shaw opened the scoring in the second half the Hammers look deflated.
“Paul Konchesky’s side had no answers to City’s magnificent front three. Bunny Shaw was so strong on the ball and Fisk and Cissoko had a torrid time trying to keep her contained.
“I’m pleased with the determination and effort from the team but it’s clear that the so-called top 4 are miles ahead in their development.”
