West Ham United told to get rid of Aaron Cresswell as multi-million news emerges

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie believes Aaron Cresswell will leave West Ham for less than £5million this summer amid a £2.5million bid for the player from Wolves.

As per The Guardian (19 July), West Ham’s Premier League rivals Wolves have made an opening offer of £2.5million for the 33-year-old.

The publication added that the Hammers are not happy with that fee, and are expected to demand around £5million for the left-back.

Cresswell joined the East London club from Championship outfit Ipswich Town in 2014, and has gone on to make 331 appearances in claret and blue.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I think he will go for less than £5million. Emerson is the number one left-back. I think they like him. He’s a better defender than Cresswell.

“I would let him go. I’ve seen that some supporters would rather keep him as a backup. That’s alright, but I don’t think Cresswell will want to be a backup. Footballers don’t want to be backup to anyone.

“If he goes to Wolves, he’s going to play every week. I can’t see him staying at West Ham if he won’t play. For the sake of a couple of million. I think £3million would be a good price for him.

“Thank him for what he has done at West Ham, because he’s been there for a while, and let him go. Unless he wants to fight for his place, which is another scenario. I don’t think Cresswell is the kind of player to sit on the bench and wait until he is called upon.

“You don’t see too many left-backs getting substituted, so I don’t think he’ll want to stay there. But you never know, he might want to finish his career there.”

In other West Ham news, one Hammers ace is “pushing” for a move to Saudi Arabia amid “serious interest” in the player.
