West Ham United to sign Scott McTominay as £25m+ transfer update emerges
Frank McAvennie has urged West Ham to splash upwards of £25million to sign Scott McTominay from Manchester United this summer.
According to CaughtOffside [16 July], the Hammers are ready to open talks with Man United this week, though the club are expected to demand £29million for the midfielder.
The Red Devils have already swatted away bids for McTominay this summer, as per the Manchester Evening News, and McAvennie is keen for the Irons to save him from Old Trafford.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “I would pay it. £25million-£29million is nothing for a midfield player of Scott’s calibre. He’s only 27 years old and you see him play for Scotland, he scores goals, and he can play centre-half or centre-midfield.
“He’s in amongst all the big boys at Manchester United. It must be bad because he’s playing well and all of a sudden, he gets dropped. I’m asking, ‘Why is he being dropped?’ because the others are rubbish.
“I’d take him at West Ham. He needs a strong manager to get his finger out because he’s a damn good player when he puts his mind to it.”
West Ham United told to save Scott McTominay from Man United
All McTominay has known is Man United and Old Trafford, having come through the academy system before breaking into the first team in 2016.
Despite this, the Scot’s appearances have been limited in most seasons, even despite his loyalty to the club, passion on the pitch and obvious talent.
The midfielder – who Wes Brown dubbed as “one of the best” – is a leader, taking charge when playing for Scotland and even rescuing his nation on numerous occasions like he did against Switzerland at Euro 2024.

As a box-to-box midfielder, McTominay is certainly not afraid of putting his body on the line, though he has been known to have a decent strike, scoring 38 goals for club and country.
Julen Lopetegui could certainly do with an engine like McTominay in midfield, and the Hammers are now being urged to act on the interest this summer.
