West Ham United to back Julen Lopetegui in transfer window as three-window plan emerges
West Ham United are set to back Julen Lopetegui over the next three transfer windows to allow him to put his stamp on the squad, according to Dan Plumley.
The Hammers are set to appoint the Spaniard as head coach to replace David Moyes, who will leave the club when his contract expires as the board look to go in a different direction with the team.
It’s expected to be a busy summer window with a number of exits and arrivals mooted and football finance expert Plumley believes the club will back him for the next three windows like most clubs do to give him a chance to embed his philosophy on the team.
“The stats kind of back that up as well if you look at when new managers have come in and probably the first couple of windows, maybe the first three windows, if it’s in the summer, taking a summer window, a January window and the next summer window if you’re giving that manager time,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“The numbers would back up that theory that you are going to back that manager, particularly in the early part of the reign because that new manager will have new plans that they want to implement, there’s potentially a different style of play versus the old manager, there’s players that are more suited to those styles, the personal connections, there’s all kinds of things that go into the mix.
“As I say, I think West Ham will back that manager in this window and then over the next year or so to see that through and give the manager time to embed his style and philosophy onto the team.”
West Ham United must be patient and sensible
Moyes has left a lasting impression on plenty of people linked to West Ham after four-and-a-half years at the helm, and whoever came in to replace him was going to have a big job stepping into his shoes.
The squad had been built in his image, and now with him gone and Lopetegui being brought in to change the style of the team there will have to be changes on the pitch.

That means with personnel but also with approach, and fans will have to be patient in the early period of the season as players and manager adapt to a new setting.
Lopetegui is clearly very talented and has got a fantastic record in management both at club level and also while at international level with Spain, so he knows what he is doing for sure.
But if things don’t start fast, fans and the board cannot panic. This will be a process and he must be given the chance to get it right without the rug being pulled from under him.
