West Ham United pursuit of £20m+ Reiss Nelson branded ‘total nonsense’
Dan Bardell doesn’t think West Ham should sign Reiss Nelson from Arsenal amid summer transfer interest.
The Hammers could look to add yet another wide forward to their squad before the deadline after already bringing in Luis Guilherme and Crysencio Summerville.
The fringe Gunners star could be on the Irons’ radar according to a report from teamTALK on 27 August.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes Julen Lopetegui already has positive options in forward areas so doesn’t need the 24-year-old.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “The going rate would probably be £20m-plus, which would seem expensive.
“They just don’t need him, they’ve got so many players in attacking areas. He’d be up against Jarrod Bowen on the right and for £20m he just isn’t going to displace him.
“If Bowen is injured I imagine that Kudus would swap sides and Summerville would come in instead.
“I would have that one down as total nonsense from a West Ham perspective.“
West Ham urged not to sign Reiss Nelson from Arsenal
The Hammers have had a positive transfer window but there is a point where they could make too many deals to form a gelled-together squad.
This has seen Lopetegui start the season, reluctant to start the majority of his new signings who have been left on the bench to start the opening two games.
Adding Nelson into that mix could prove to just be damaging to the set up at the London Stadium moving forward as regular minutes could become a problem.
The Englishman is talented but has barely played for Arsenal over the years and moving to East London could prove to be a mistake.

This deal would only get worse if Tim Steidten and Co. opted to spend upwards of £20m on the winger.
