West Ham United may have relegation clause in Gianluca Scamacca’s contract amid transfer speculation – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie believes Gianluca Scamacca is likely to have a relegation clause in his West Ham contract as he is linked with a summer move away.

The Italy international has managed seven goals this season since his £35m move from Sassuolo last summer, and has been linked with a move back to Italy with AC Milan and Juventus linked amid rumours of unhappiness from Scamacca.

And when asked about the striker potentially leaving the club should the club get relegated this season, McAvennie suggested that West Ham may not have much say in keeping him because he won’t want to play in the Championship.

“I think you’ll find that when most big players come in there are things in their contract that if they get relegated they can leave,” he told West Ham Zone.

“That’ll be in his contract. The agents deal with that now. Because I know he’s not playing in the Championship.

“I think the boy is a good player, but he’s got to be playing all the time. I don’t know. If he’s playing in the right team or the wrong team I don’t know.

“I hope he turns it around though because this team can’t go down.”

The Hammers currently sit in the relegation zone ahead of a return to Premier League action against Southampton (2 April), one point adrift of safety but with a game in hand on the teams around them.
