West Ham United hold power over Celtic to appoint Brendan Rodgers as new manager

West Ham United hold the upper hand over Celtic if they want to appoint Brendan Rodgers to replace Julen Lopetegui if he is sacked, Dan Plumley has said.

It comes after Darren Bent recently suggested that Rodgers could be the one to take over if Lopetegui is given his marching orders at the London Stadium [talkSPORT, 5 November].

Plumley, a football finance expert, admitted that despite greater financial power in the Premier League, it would come down to Rodgers and what he wanted to do at Parkhead.

“I think you’ve got both sides to that,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“In financial considerations, yes, the Premier League clubs would hold more power there financially just given the dynamics of the money in the Premier League versus the Scottish Premiership, so West Ham would have the upper hand in the negotiations.

It just depends on how much they want to stretch, but they have that power there over Celtic financially.

Brendan Rodgers to leave Celtic for West Ham United?

The other side of that is what are the manager’s intentions there and does he want to move if that situation came to light? I think that is more of a tipping point in terms of what Brendan Rodgers would want to do there over the financial side of it.

Ultimately, the way the industry is, the money and the power is far greater in the Premier League than it is in Scotland, at the moment.”

All of this is hypothetical until Lopetegui either proves himself or is sacked.

It will be interesting to see what happens between now and Christmas, with Rodgers possibly one to watch at the London Stadium.
