West Ham United: Frank McAvennie predicts result v Freiburg in new David Moyes verdict
Frank McAvennie has predicted West Ham to beat Freiburg and progress to the next round of the Europa League thanks to David Moyes’ record in the competition.
The former Hammer expects Moyes’ side to progress to the next round and perhaps go all the way, admitting he fancies them to win every game in Europe.
He explained that the togetherness in this team will be enough to see them through in Europe and they will be used to the level of competition and effort required by now.
McAvennie – speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone – shared, however, that the defence, and more importantly avoiding any errors, will be key.
“I think they’ve got enough in the tank, it’s not like West Ham a few years ago, they’ve been in Europe three times now,” McAvennie shared.
“David is good, one thing you can say about him is he’s got it right. What he’s done is he’s got the European team bonding that you need. You fancy them every game now. They’ll not be far away from this tournament.
“I think they’ll get by and they’ll score, definitely, probably score a couple. It depends on the defence, as long as they don’t make mistakes, West Ham will win.“
West Ham v Freiburg Europa League prediction
After a disappointing 1-0 first-leg defeat which was surrounded by controversy following a questionable VAR decision with the Hammers not being awarded a penalty despite what looked like a blatant handball, they will be looking to bounce back.
A draw against Burnley which followed the Europa League defeat saw the Hammers struggle to impress again, but as McAvennie shared, this team is often a different animal in Europe as they proved with their Conference League victory.
Regardless of any perceived struggle in their domestic form, Moyes’ team usually turns up when it matters in Europe, and certainly has the talent to overturn the 1-0 defeat to a side they beat twice in the group stage.

As McAvennie shared, however, they will need to avoid any sloppy defensive mistakes like the one made by Konstantinos Mavropanos against Burnley at the London Stadium to avoid falling too far behind in the clash.
