West Ham United flops slammed in ‘awful’ new rant after 2-2 draw v Liverpool
Frank McAvennie has hit out at Kurt Zouma, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Aaron Cresswell and Ben Johnson in a new rant after West Ham drew 2-2 with Liverpool at the London Stadium.
The former Hammers man has been vocal in his frustration at the starting defenders in recent weeks but has insisted those coming in to replace them are not any better.
He also questioned where the next win would come from for the Irons, with just one in their last nine games and only four coming this calendar year.
McAvennie – speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone – went as far as to question how Johnson even made it as a professional footballer as he fumed at his recent displays.
“I don’t know where results are going to come from. I can’t see them getting anything. I really do hope I’m wrong but I think Zouma and the other centre-half have just been awful,” said McAvennie.
“They brought Cresswell back and he was awful, they bring Johnson on and I can’t believe he’s there, I can’t believe he’s even a professional football player.
“I want somebody to come in and try and get a hold of the game, not just to come on and be the same as everyone else. It’s a strange one.”
West Ham defenders slammed yet again after 2-2 draw
A 2-2 draw with Liverpool is never a bad result, but it extended the Hammers’ winless run to five games in all competitions and added to their defensive woes as they have now conceded nine goals in their last three Premier League games.
As mentioned, McAvennie has made no secret of his criticism for the defenders, with Zouma and Mavropanos singled out on several occasions for their underwhelming displays at the London Stadium, having been labelled “embarrassing”.
It has also been said that the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen would be “fed up” with having to do so much work in helping out at the back as a result of the defenders’ inconsistency, with Cresswell and Johnson now part of the problem.

The priority in the transfer window should be finding two new centre-backs, the links with Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso, Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and Wolves’ Max Kilman show the club are acting on it.
