West Ham United chances of signing £25m Matt O’Riley rated amid Celtic exit talk

Dan Bardell can’t see West Ham signing Matt O’Riley from Celtic after the business they have already completed.

Caught Offside reported on 5 August that the Scottish Premiership champions could demand up to £25million for the Denmark international.

Leicester City and Atalanta also have a strong interest in the 23-year-old with Brendan Rogers’ side already rejecting multiple offers.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes the Irons have spent too much already this window to now splash out on O’Riley.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “If Rodriguez has already come in, they’ve got Ward-Prowse, Soucek and Alvarez already, I can’t see it.

I wouldn’t see them dropping that sort of fee on another central midfielder. O’Riley has been linked to Chelsea as well so he’s clearly a talented player.

Celtic have put a high valuation on his head so I don’t think he’ll be a priority signing.

Considering the money that West Ham have already spent this summer I don’t see that one happening at all.

West Ham could end Matt O’Riley pursuit

Under Lopetegui, Tim Steidten has been handed the freedom to revolutionise the squad at the London Stadium throughout the window.

This has seen six new players come in with Guido Rodriguez coming in as a fresh face in the midfield from Real Betis.

As a result, the Hammers now have a raft of options in the centre of the park which is likely to give the Spanish head coach a headache.

With that being said, adding O’Riley into that mix at £25m could prove to be detrimental to the players already in the Irons’ squad.

There is no doubt that the Dane has star quality and could become a useful asset in the Premier League if he was to sign.

Right now at, Lopetegui doesn’t need another midfielder but if a sale goes through then maybe O’Riley will be more closely considered.
