‘West Ham to celebrate £20m Edson Alvarez sale’ after what happened with Mexico
Edson Alvarez has never truly shown his best form since signing for West Ham.
The 27-year-old has failed to live up to the expectations that were set after his £35million move to the London Stadium from Ajax.
This has seen the versatile midfielder struggle with discipline, while being unable to nail down a regular spot in the starting 11 in the past two seasons.
Despite this, Alvarez has done well on the international stage, something which could spark a move away from East London this summer.

Alvarez could be set for West Ham exit
There has been no shortage of transfer links at this early stage of the window, despite no business being done to this point in E20.
It appears that a midfield option is near the top of the priority list, with the Irons already showing an interest in Yunus Musah at AC Milan.
With that being said, several exits could also be on the cards with Guido Rodriguez maybe set for a departure after a debut campaign to forget.
Stat (Premier League 24/25) | Edson Alvarez | Guido Rodriguez |
Appearances | 28 | 23 |
Tackles won | 27 | 19 |
Duel win rate (%) | 50.2 | 56.4 |
The Mexico international could be set to follow him out the door at Rush Green after catching the eye while away with El Tri.
It is fair to say that this hasn’t impressed former Hammers midfielder Martin Allen, who would love to see the back of Alvarez in East London this summer.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “He has been underwhelming and certainly isn’t my favourite.
“He’s got good praise and played well for Mexico, but it’s a different type of football out there in the boiling hot weather.
“It’s a lot slower and is a completely different type of football from this country.
“If West Ham could get £15m or £20m off the back of those performances, I imagine they’ll be setting up a party to celebrate.
“Oh my god, I’d snap anyone’s hands off for £20m for him.
“Add that to the money from selling Nayef Aguerd, and maybe you can go out and get a few decent players.“

Alvarez sale to fund West Ham rebuild
It is fair to say that Graham Potter will have grand designs for his Irons side moving into his first full season with the claret and blue outfit.
Although this will be positive for the E20 club, it will come with challenges given the financial situation surrounding his side right now.
With the Lucas Paqueta situation causing PSR worries, the sale of someone like Alvarez could help raise much-needed funds to put towards a summer of change.
As a result, the better level of performance for Mexico could ultimately prove to be a bargaining chip to sanction a sale for a positive fee.
