‘West Ham to avoid £60m hit after Nuno Espirito Santo developments’

Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment could save West Ham from a £60million blow, according to Dan Plumley.

Nuno replaced Graham Potter as West Ham boss in September, after a miserable set of results saw the former Chelsea manager dismissed from his post.

Nuno has turned the atmosphere around at West Ham, and the club no longer seems destined for the relegation zone, as it did before he came to the London Stadium.

His hiring could turn out to be just as important in the boardroom as it has been on the pitch.

West Ham could lose £60m as new relegation claim made

Finance expert Plumley believes that the Hammers would be in line to lose a huge sum if they were relegated from the top-flight, and that the gamble to replace Potter so soon could prove to be a masterclass.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “Yeah, a number of clubs with managerial changes at this time of year, or looking to what they are going to do in the January window.

“West Ham went a little bit earlier than some, and decided to change their manager, and it didn’t quite work straight away, but now they have picked up a couple of wins.

“While you can do that while the table is not getting away from you, there is an opportunity there that you do make it work, there is enough to suggest that he potentially gets them out of trouble.

“That would be, if you are looking at that from a pounds and pence scenario, it is £60million, that would have been off the revenue line with relegation, and it would have been a big blow to the club given where they have been in the last few years.”

Will Nuno appointment prove to be a success?

Ultimately, that cannot be known until the end of the season, but it is safe to say that the situation looks a lot brighter with the Portuguese boss in charge.

There seems to be a belief that the Irons can avoid the drop, which seemed like a likely possibility when Potter was in charge.

Nuno looks to be the saviour, both from a footballing and financial viewpoint, but he needs to keep the current momentum flowing.
