West Ham summer signing faces being axed by Graham Potter already, ‘transfer fee has rattled him’

Lukasz Fabianski could start ahead of Mads Hermansen after his dramatic return to West Ham.

Fabianski surprisingly signed for West Ham earlier this month, having previously been let go after the end of last season at the London Stadium.

This saw the former Poland international come in after Wes Foderingham left West Ham for Aris Limassol after the summer window came to an end in E20.

The return of the 41-year-old was well-received and has coincided with Hermansen’s struggles since signing for West Ham from Leicester City.

As a result, Graham Potter could be set to utilise the experience of Fabianski ahead of Hermansen for the Irons’ upcoming Premier League clashes.

Lukasz Fabianski could replace Mads Hermansen at West Ham

Fabianski came into the West Ham squad against Tottenham as he became the third goalkeeper available in the squad for the East London club.

Although he was only on the bench, the Pole could be set to come in from the start in the coming weeks, especially if Hermansen is to continue his faltering start.

This has seen the Dane come under pressure due to a number of poor performances, which have seen him concede 11 goals in just four games.

As a result, Premier League expert Darke believes Fabianski could be called upon from the start by Potter and would back him to be successful.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Darke said: “Potter will pick what he thinks is his best team, and if the keeper isn’t performing and someone else can do it better, that is a change he’ll have to make.

It’s been a disappointingly shaky start for Hermansen after doing so well for Leicester.

Maybe with a fee over his head, he feels a certain level of expectation. That’s something that Potter has to think about, and he will think about.

Fabianski is back now, and he’s a good goalkeeper.

If he were back in goal next week, you’d back him to have a solid game.

It’s an option that the manager wants to have, so it might already be close to a point where he wants to take Hermansen out.

Mads Hermansen could benefit from being dropped

At 25, the Danish international is young for a goalkeeper and, bar one season, is largely inexperienced in the Premier League.

As a result, giving him some time on the bench and the opportunity to learn more from the likes of Fabianski and Alphonse Areola could be wise.

It will be interesting to see how Potter assesses his options and how he believes that Hermansen will be best to develop at the London Stadium.

Either way the head coach decides to go, it is fair to say that the addition of the Polish keeper can only benefit the summer signing in East London.
