West Ham ready quality Wilson gamble as agent talks emerge – Exclusive
West Ham Zone presents the exclusive opinion of iconic football commentator Ian Darke.
West Ham could swoop to sign former Newcastle forward Callum Wilson on a free transfer.
Wilson departed St James’ Park at the end of the season after five years, after featuring 22 times for Eddie Howe’s side in all competitions.
Graham Potter is in desperate need of a new striker after Niclas Fullkrug and Evan Ferguson struggled last season, the latter now signing for Roma.
The former England international could be the answer, but there may be concerns about his signature at the London Stadium.

West Ham tipped to make Wilson move
West Ham have started talks with Wilson’s representatives over a potential move, according to Sky Sports (23 July)
Wilson has not featured as much as he would have liked to in the Premier League over the last few years, mainly due to injury issues.
However, Ian Darke believes that the Hammers should still sign him because of what he would bring to the squad.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “Wilson, even at 33 years old, is a good quality bloke to have on board, but he can’t be the main striker because he misses so many games with injury.
“Use him as a squad player, that would be the way to go.
“It is a gamble worth taking on a free, so long as they have other good striking options”

Wilson could thrive at West Ham
The veteran striker is one of the most lethal marksmen in the league when he is fully fit, and he may just need a change of scenery and medical team to change his fortunes.
Wilson has missed a total of 66 matches since the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign, so they would have to work on his fitness.
However, he has proven that he has the positioning and finishing skills to thrive at West Ham, and it would be worth taking a gamble on him.
As Darke says, he cannot be the main option to lead the line, but he would be a brilliant asset to the squad if he were to be signed.
