‘West Ham in running for £25m Douglas Luiz deal’ amid Aston Villa return twist
West Ham could face competition from Aston Villa to land Douglas Luiz.
The Brazil international has been subject to high levels of interest this summer after a difficult 12 months with Juventus.
This looks likely to result in a Premier League return, with the London Stadium representing a potential landing ground ahead of the new season.
With that being said, a £25million deal to link up with Graham Potter could be impacted by the chances of a Villa Park return.
West Ham in running to sign Luiz
There is no getting away from the fact that the Irons are in desperate need of more dynamic central midfield options in East London.
The current options show a general lack of athleticism, with someone like Guido Rodriguez failing to impress in claret and blue.
As a result, the signing of Luiz could prove to be superb for West Ham, especially if a cut-price deal with the Serie A giants is agreed before the new campaign begins.
Former Brentford and Leicester City boss Martin Allen believes the Irons will be boosted in their efforts to sign the 27-year-old as a move to Aston Villa appears to be off the table.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “He’s a good player, but he hasn’t done great at Juventus.
“I think if West Ham could get him for £25m, they would be doing very well.
“He’s the kind of player who you’d hope would be playing in the team week in and week out. He’s mobile, he’s got plenty of athleticism, and at Aston Villa, he popped up with plenty of important goals.
“Douglas Luiz would be a good signing, and for £25m, I think that would be a good deal.
“Would he want to go back to Villa now? I very much doubt it. He’s severed his ties there, I don’t think he’ll go back now that he’s left.“
Luiz faces Aston Villa transfer blow
It does feel as if the ex-Manchester City man would welcome a move back to the West Midlands after such a positive first spell.
As a result, it may prove to be a blow to learn that the chances of a reunion with Unai Emery is off the cards, but not to the Hammers.
