West Ham exclusive: Major Edson Alvarez injury worry revealed
West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez is on the right track towards recovering from his back injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert reacts after he featured for 26 minutes as the Hammers beat Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford.
The Mexico international was on the bench for that one, but came on in the second half for Guido Rodriguez.

Alvarez not expected back at 100 per cent until the end of the season
Even though the 27-year-old did return and is on the right path to recovery, he is not expected to be back to full fitness so quickly.
It is expected to take some more time as he’s continuing to deal with a back problem.

Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Dr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said: “Alvarez continues to deal with a back problem, but he appears to be on the right track to recovery.
“He played 26 minutes against Manchester United as part of his recovery.
“If he responds well to bounce minutes, there’s a chance he can return to the starting XI prior to the season concluding.
“However, I don’t see him back at 100 per cent until the end of the season.“

West Ham do not need to push Alvarez to the limit
With West Ham languishing in 15th place and no realistic chance of European qualification or relegation concerns this season, pushing Alvarez to play excessive minutes poses unnecessary risks.
The Mexican has been pivotal despite injury setbacks, but overexerting him in meaningless matches could exacerbate existing issues or cause new injuries, jeopardising his availability for the 2025/26 campaign under Graham Potter.
His physical, combative style demands careful management, especially with West Ham’s thin midfield options.
Asking the 27-year-old to go beyond his physical limits could also dent his morale and long-term commitment, particularly if the club aims to build around him.
With nothing at stake, the London Stadium outfit should prioritise his recovery and fitness, using fringe players or youth prospects to fill gaps, ensuring Alvarez is primed for a pivotal role in next season’s rebuild.
