West Ham disrespect to David Moyes rubbished amid behind-the-scenes development

Dan Bardell has suggested West Ham United looking at other managers isn’t disrespectful to David Moyes, it is just typical of every modern football club.

The Hammers boss is ready to depart in the summer as his contract is set to expire at the London Stadium.

In recent weeks, there have been links to other managers like Julen Lopetegui, Ruben Amorim and Paulo Fonseca. The public pursuit of a new manager has been brandished as a disrespectful move.

Despite this, Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist, Bardell has suggested that this is what any club would do if they were in the same position as West Ham this summer.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “I think when a manager’s coming towards the end of his contract, which Moyes is, clubs do their due diligence and they speak to managers it’s just a fact of life.

“It never looks good if it comes out. Unfortunately, that’s what’s happened at West Ham but that’ll be the same at every single high-level football club in the world.

“It’ll look disrespectful to David Moyes but I don’t think it is. It’s a natural thing that’s happened. I don’t know why it wasn’t announced earlier as both parties knew it was coming to an end maybe a month or two ago but were probably waiting to see what happened with West Ham in Europe.

“It’s been clear the West Ham fans want a change. When fans want a change, it tends to happen. It doesn’t look great, but I understand that it happens and it’s part and parcel of football.”

Are West Ham United right to let David Moyes go?

Sections of the fan base have clamoured for a new manager to come in and play “The West Ham Way”.

Moyes has been criticised for often playing more defensive-minded football but this season they have conceded plenty of goals.

Five goals were shipped against Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Fulham while six were conceded against Arsenal.

Despite a positive league finish and a quarter-final in the Europa League, it has been far from a negative season for Moyes.

Nevertheless, he is leaving the club with a new man set to take the hot seat in the dugout at the London Stadium.

Lopetegui doesn’t exactly play the most exciting brand of football which may send the Hammers fans into a further spiral.

Amorim would be closer to the free-flowing football that the fans are after but that move doesn’t look likely.

The appointment has to be right to emulate anything close to what Moyes achieved.
