West Ham compensation in Julen Lopetegui contract already before sack decision
West Ham would likely have placed a compensation fee in the contract of Julen Lopetegui ahead of his possible sacking, Dan Plumley has said.
The Spaniard is on the verge of the sack at the London Stadium, with the Irons already drawing up replacements after the 3-1 loss at Leicester on 3 December [The Sun].
Plumley, a football finance expert, admits that although unknown, the Hammers will have to pay up to get rid of Lopetegui, despite expecting so much better in his short reign.
“You would imagine so,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“We’ve not seen the details of the contract, the compensation fee.
“We saw Manchester United publish that recently around the cost of sacking Erik ten Hag and the appointment of Ruben Amorim, so we know it’s going to be a compensation fee.
West Ham United to sack Julen Lopetegui?
“Again, that’s the nature of manager contracts and it will have been put in there up front, they probably would have expected better in the short-term, if he is to go, it is really short-term.
‘That option is more than likely in there, and it’s very likely it will come at a cost.”

It has been nothing short of a disastrous season for the Irons and Lopetegui so far, sitting 14th in the Premier League and six points above relegation.
As some board members have already lost faith in the Spaniard [Dharmesh Sheth], it feels unlikely that he will recover from the defeat at Leicester, with his exit more likely with each passing hour.
In other West Ham news, an Englishman is another manager in position to replace Lopetegui.
