West Ham cancellation is smart PR stunt after Premier League development – ‘Cost is never an issue’

West Ham United are not in the Christmas spirit in the lead-up to the holidays.

Nuno Espirito Santo has been brought in to turn things around at Rush Green, but West Ham remain in the Premier League relegation zone.

The struggles are so much that West Ham have cancelled their annual Christmas party.

With only three wins from 15 and 13 points collected, the season so far has even been described as grim at the London Stadium.

West Ham right to cancel Christmas party

Dan Plumley believes this was the right call, with critics likely lining up to have their say if the squad were spotted partying while in a relegation battle.

West Ham drew 1-1 with Brighton last time out, with renewed hope that things are turning around.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, the football finance expert admitted that the cost of these things are never an issue for football clubs.

“I would say so, yes,” Plumley said when asked if this was more of a PR stunt.

“The cost of these things is never an issue.

“It is what it looks like to the external world, and given the tricky position they find themselves in league-wise, you can imagine what the critics might say on this one.

“Sensible in this regard to make the call to cancel it and focus on the football.”

West Ham schedule at Christmas

The Christmas schedule can make or break teams in the Premier League.

West Ham take on Aston Villa and Manchester City next, in horrible fixtures, but a favourable run starts to emerge going into 2026.

Games against Fulham, Brighton, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham and Sunderland represent great opportunities to climb out of danger.

Forget if this is a PR stunt or not; it is all about West Ham avoiding the catastrophe of relegation to the Championship next season.
