Pundit: West Ham United must avoid hiring Jesse Marsch as David Moyes replacement
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie feels West Ham would have to be “deluded” to hire Jesse Marsch as their new manager after he turned down another job.
The American was sacked by Leeds back in February after leading them into a relegation battle, but has since turned down offers to take over both Southampton and Leicester this season.
But when asked if Marsch was someone that the Hammers should consider if Moyes was to be relieved of his duties as boss, McAvennie admitted he wasn’t a fan of the former Salzburg and Leipzig boss.

“Not for me,” he told West Ham Zone.
“I’m not in any way being deluded but West Ham is a massive club and they deserve to be better. I’m not a fan of Jesse Marsch.
“If David goes, after (Newcastle) I’m thinking this [level of performance] might not change.
“But it’s down to the owners. David has to have a go. He’s got to do something before it’s really too late.“

The expectation is that Moyes will see out the rest of the season but a review of his position should take place in the summer.
Fans are desperate for an attack-minded manager to step in and lead this squad forward, because there is bags of potential in this group of players to do great things.
But Marsch is certainly not that manager and his track record in England proves that.
Hard pass please.
