Pundit wants to see Gianluca Scamacca keep West Ham United starting spot v Fulham
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie wants to see Gianluca Scamacca keep his starting spot for West Ham when they face Fulham this weekend after his goals this week.
The Italian striker got his first Premier League goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Wolves last weekend, before coming off the bench to score the winning goal against Anderlecht in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
But with Michail Antonio preferred to him so far this season as the starting striker, McAvennie is hopeful that Scamacca will get back in the starting lineup against Fulham after giving Antonio a “kick up the backside”.

“I would like to think so,” he told West Ham Zone. “I would like to think so. I think he’s earned the right to play. He’s scored his first goal. Yeah, I would.
“He gives you something different than Antonio. So yeah, I would wait and see how that one plays out.
“I’d love to see the two of them, but that’s just me. I like to see two strikers. But I think they’ll mix and match the two. I don’t know but I’d like to see him stay in because he’s given Antonio the kick up the backside that he needed.
“So they’re in competition now, so we’ll see how it goes.”
Scamacca is the club’s top scorer so far this season with four goals in all competitions, while Antonio has managed three so far this season but also has two assists.
Maxwel Cornet will miss the game with a calf injury, so it’s possible that they could start together with Antonio returning to his more natural winger position to support him in attack.
