Pundit: Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Patrick Vieira should not replace David Moyes as West Ham United manager
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie is still backing David Moyes to turn things around at West Ham amid new sack talk, and said an iconic trio shouldn’t be near the job.
The Hammers currently sit in 18th place in the Premier League, one point adrift of safety, and reports suggest that Moyes fears he could be sacked if they lose to Southampton on Sunday (2 April).
Several names have been linked with the post as potential replacements for Moyes should he leave, but when asked about a certain iconic Premier League trio after their recent sackings at other posts McAvennie was adamant they shouldn’t be considered.

“No, no,” he told West Ham Zone.
“Steven Gerrard, no. Frank Lampard, no. Patrick Vieira, I liked how he played at Crystal Palace but the club aren’t going to go there.
“There was one man mentioned who wants to come back to English football and I would love him, Mourinho. I know the fans may not though.
“But lets not. We’re talking about David, and he’s a big boy but he’s not getting the results at the moment. I think the world of David Moyes, honestly, and I just think that you can’t keep talking about what happened last year.
“If Moyes got sacked I would love Mourinho to come, but whether he could work with Mr. Sullivan or not I don’t know. That would be worth the admission just to see that.

“I’d love him, he’d sort them right out. I don’t know why David’s not doing it. Let the handbrake off, let them go and play.
“Benrahma, Bowen, I’ve not seen them enjoy themselves for a while. Let them go and play. I just look at these players and think what a talent they are, just let them go and play.”
