Pundit shares ‘signing of the season’ verdict on new West Ham United star James Ward-Prowse
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes new West Ham man James Ward-Prowse could be the signing of the summer transfer window.
The midfielder joined the Hammers on a four-year deal from Southampton last month, as per the official West Ham website (14 August).
Having registered an assist for the Saints in their opening match of the new season against Sheffield Wednesday, Ward-Prowse has added three more assists in claret and blue.
The 28-year-old also has a goal to his name for the Hammers, scoring in the 3-1 victory against Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton last month.
Joining Ward-Prowse in signing for the Hammers in the summer were defender Konstantinos Mavropanos, fellow midfielder Edson Alvarez and attacker Mohammed Kudus.

Former Arsenal man Mavropanos arrived from German side Stuttgart, with Alvarez and Kudus both coming in from Dutch giants Ajax.
Pundit McAvennie believes the new recruits who have played are doing well in their brief careers in East London so far.
Both Alvarez and Kudus have been handed minutes under David Moyes, but centre-back Mavropanos is yet to make his Hammers debut due to injury.
Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “Ward-Prowse could be the signing of the season. And the boys that they’ve brought in are doing well.
“And they’ll do a lot better as they come in and settle into the team. It will be good.”
