Pundit shares reaction to David Moyes sack update at West Ham United as ‘hopeless’ verdict shared

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie believes David Moyes will be having conversations with West Ham United bosses regarding his future after news emerged regarding his job security after the Fulham loss.

The Athletic reported on 11 December that Moyes is said to retain the full backing of the Hammers board despite the embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Fulham on Sunday (10 December).

Moyes’ position is said to not be under threat at this moment and he has the full support of those above him, but his stock among fans is threatening to nosedive again.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie warned fans they must “be careful” what they wish for after the fallout from the result at Craven Cottage.

He said: “You’ve gotta be careful what you wish for. I keep saying it I mean, last week against Tottenham was brilliant but you know what’s gonna happen at Tottenham, they just come at you.

The defending that night was great and then this week against Fulham they were hopeless.

You can’t from being at the top of your form to being as they were at Craven Cottage. If you’re having a bad game, its gotta be a performance which is something in the middle to ensure of a result, especially in the Premier League.

They were found wanting at the weekend against Fulham but I don’t know if Moyes is going to get a new contract.

I really don’t know what the situation is, I’m sure there will be conversations but I don’t know.

We haven’t even heard anything from the club directly which is so strange when you don’t hear anything from them. So maybe they’ve got Moyes’ future sorted already.

Getting into European football again, that’s what was promised but sometimes the football is not the best it should be, especially with the talented players that we’ve got, we should be playing a lot better than we are.

In the last few years, they’ve not had players that can do that. Now they’ve got Jarrod Bowen, they’ve got Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta, these players that can get the ball down and play.

“I know there were a couple of injuries but that Fulham defeat was awful. Hopefully, things will change for Moyes’ sake.”

In other West Ham news, the Irons could potentially bring in a new manager prior to their EFL Cup tie at Anfield.
