Pundit hopeful of England chance for ‘wonderful’ Jarrod Bowen, West Ham United ace ‘back to his best’
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie is hopeful that West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen will be handed a chance to impress during the international break.
As per BBC Sport (5 October), the winger has been called up to the latest Three Lions squad by manager Gareth Southgate.
England host Australia in a friendly match on Friday (15 October) before hosting Italy in Euro 2024 qualifying action on Tuesday (17 October).

Bowen missed out on a spot in the previous Three Lions squad, but has been included this time around amid his superb start to the season.
The attacker boasts five goals and two assists in all competitions for the Hammers, having played nine matches so far.
His form could lead to a start against Australia, particularly given how fellow winger Bukayo Saka has withdrawn from the squad due to injury.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I hope he gets a chance, because he’s been playing well. You’ve got to give him a chance. I don’t know how it’s going to go, but he’s in the squad, he’ll be happy with that. He just needs to bide his time, keep doing well, keep doing what he’s doing.
“He went off the boil for a bit, and he’s back now, he’s back to his best and back playing wonderful football and smiling. That makes a big difference. Just take your chance if you get it. Good luck to him, go and enjoy it.”
