Pundit: Gianluca Scamacca must start for West Ham United or he will leave this summer

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Gianluca Scamacca will look to leave West Ham this summer if David Moyes doesn’t start playing him despite their bad results, says Frank McAvennie.

The Hammers are right in the thick of a relegation battle but eased the pressure on the manager with a vital 1-0 win over Fulham (8 April), moving them to three points above the relegation zone with a game in hand on all their rivals.

But despite the battle they’re in, Italy international Scamacca hasn’t started a Premier League game since January 4th and McAvennie believes he will look to leave the club if he can’t start in the coming weeks despite the team’s poor form.

West Ham

“Get him in the team,” he told West Ham Zone.

If he can’t get in the team after performances like that (v Newcastle) then he’s not in the manager’s plans so he’s going to want to leave. He’ll want to go.

“There is the potential there for him to be a really good player and I think if he leaves it’ll be a shame because with a run of games he’d be a really good player. If you get the ball into him and play the right way.

West Ham

Scamacca recently signed with a new agency after parting ways with his previous agents due to a “lack of trust”, but it’s currently unclear if that is directly linked to his immediate future at the London Stadium.

Juventus and AC Milan have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old former Sassuolo man, and West Ham are said to be open to his exit should they receive an acceptable offer.
