Pundit expects busy January transfer window for West Ham United

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie is expecting a busy January transfer window for West Ham this winter, with “offers flying everywhere” after the World Cup in Qatar.

The Hammers signed eight first-team players in the summer but weren’t able to bring in players in all the positions that David Moyes wanted to, meaning they’re likely to return to the market in January.

And with the World Cup tournament taking place just before the window opens, McAvennie believes it’ll be a really busy month and is hopeful that West Ham will do any business early rather than “scrambling” at the end of it.

“All the players at the World Cup are going to be picked up then,” he told West Ham Zone. “There’s going to be offers flying everywhere if they do well.

“Well it’ll be good for the club and it’ll certainly be good for David Moyes because his players go away and he gets this break, then they come back and if they’re not playing well then he’s got a couple of weeks where he can buy his players.

“I hope he gets them early doors, rather than do what West Ham usually do and Celtic, they wait until the end. And end up scrambling for players.

“I’m hoping they do their business earlier this year because they certainly need players. They certainly need players. So we’ll see.”

Moyes is known to be keen to add a right-back and another midfielder to his squad, while another defender could join should Craig Dawson leave after his deadline day exit to Wolves collapsed at the last minute.

Nayef Aguerd should be fit enough to make his debut after the World Cup though, having suffered an ankle injury in pre-season in just his second appearance after signing for the club in the summer.
