Pundit ‘delighted’ with new West Ham United transfer Konstantinos Mavropanos
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie is “delighted” that West Ham United have secured the signature of Konstantinos Mavropanos from Stuttgart.
The Hammers have signed the 25-year-old centre-back after failing to bring Manchester United man Harry Maguire to the London Stadium.
Greek international Mavropanos is the club’s third signing of the summer after the arrivals of midfielders James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I think it’s great, he’s a big lad. I just think sometimes we were struggling last year with defenders, and now we’ve got him because we didn’t get Maguire.
“The centre-halves in Germany are no-nonsense, they don’t mess about, they just get on with it. And sometimes that’s what you want from your centre-half, if you’re under pressure put it out, just don’t let anybody through one on one, and I think Mavropanos is like that.
“With Ward-Prowse and his free-kicks and corners he can take and Mavropanos going up, we will score a lot of goals. I’m delighted. Moyes never got Maguire, but we’ve got a centre-back, which is great, we know he’ll fit into the Premier League.
“They would have been so careful with him, they would have watched him and realised that he can step in. He’s safe, and Moyes likes safe. Good luck to him.”

Mavropanos, who has arrived at the London Stadium on a five-year contract [official West Ham website, 22 August], could be in line to make his Hammers debut against Brighton.
The Hammers, who take on the Seagulls away from home on Saturday (26 August), are unbeaten from their first two matches of the season with a win and a draw.
Their upcoming opponents meanwhile sit top of the league with two wins from two, leaving them two points ahead of the East London outfit.
