Pundit delighted Kurt Zouma back in training for West Ham United after ‘stupid’ defending recently
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie is delighted that Kurt Zouma is back in West Ham training after the team conceded “stupid” goals recently.
The France international is back in training after picking up a thigh injury in the win over Everton in January, and could return to the side for the weekend clash with Brighton on Saturday (4 March).
And McAvennie believes that can only be a good thing as he brings experience to a team that needs it to start fighting against relegation and climb up the table.

“Zouma yeah definitely, because he’s a good player,” he told West Ham Zone.
“They’ve been all over the place the defence. Leaking goals. Stupid goals as well, basic. If he comes back, there’s a lot of young boys coming through but they go into their shell when they come up against it.
“You need people who have been there, seen it and done it. Sometimes it’s overwhelming when you have a young boy in midfield and they’re thinking, ‘we could go down if we don’t win this.’
“It’s a distraction for them, no matter how good a player they are. They try to do things they wouldn’t normally do. You need boys who are going to stand up, not go to sleep, roll their sleeves up.

“Ten [Mark] Nobles. Ten Declan Rices if you like. People who are fighting for the club.
“You don’t want Declan Rice going at the end of the season after being relegated. His legacy would be well gone.”
