By West Ham Zone speaking to Frank McAvennie

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie has told Declan Rice he should take the opportunity to leave West Ham and sign for Bayern Munich if it comes.

The Hammers skipper is expected to leave the club at the end of the season, with Arsenal seen as frontrunners for his signature as he looks to make the step up to play Champions League football.

But reports in Germany have suggested that Bayern Munich have now entered the race and could be willing to pay the price needed to sign him, and McAvennie believes he should go abroad to Germany if given the choice.

“I think anyone would want to go to Bayern Munich,” he told West Ham Zone.

I think it’s a great club and they’ve got a history of winning Champions Leagues and playing in the Champions League. That’s what he wants.

“If you look at Jude Bellingham, he’ll know he could go there for three years and experience a different culture, different lifestyle and prove himself, and then come back to the Premier League if he wants to.

“While he’s at Bayern Munich they’ll be challenging for the Champions League, the cups, the league.

“If he gets the chance to go to Bayern then he should take it.”

If no club is willing to match the £120m asking price for Rice then selling him becomes more difficult, but surely Bayern would be the preferred destination.

We wouldn’t have to play against him, he wouldn’t have to play against us, and he can still fulfil all his dreams and aspirations at a top club. Everyone wins.
