Premier League clubs to consider manager changes in January as Nuno hits crunch time at West Ham

Nuno Espirito Santo returns to Molinuex and Wolves on Saturday in his biggest game yet as West Ham United manager.

West Ham take on Wolves on 3 January in what is a must-win game, with the Irons already four points from safety in the Premier League.

Nuno remains under severe pressure of the sack, but will be given the chance to turn it around.

On top of this, David Sullivan has opened his chequebook for early transfers at the London Stadium, with Taty Castellanos and Pablo close to joining West Ham.

Nuno hits crunch time for West Ham sack

Dan Plumley insists that this is the time that most Premier League clubs will consider managerial changes in January, if things aren’t going right.

The football finance expert believes that Wolves getting their first win of the season over the Irons would increase the pressure even further, if that’s possible.

“I think in terms of a managerial position, this is absolutely the crunch period,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“We talk about the Christmas period and January a lot, going into the window and the games come thick and fast.

If you get stuck on a bad run, a lot of clubs may then look at managerial changes in January to try and get them out of a hole.

Wolves look pretty much dead and buried, but if you’re the club that they pick up their first win against, that’s going to increase the pressure as well, so it’s a tricky spell.

As always, Nuno has got to get points or any manager would be under pressure.”

Which other Premier League managers could be sacked?

Rob Edwards is a natural choice at Wolves, even if he has only just been appointed mid-season.

The Old Gold are yet to win a game this season, so welcoming another relegation-battling side to Molineux could represent their best chance yet.

Wolves did draw 1-1 at Old Trafford against Man United last time out, just like the Irons, so confidence may have somewhat risen.

Nuno needs to focus on what he can control right now; otherwise, he’ll be packing his bags next.
