Potter told to make Sir Alex Ferguson-style changes at West Ham
Martin Allen believes Graham Potter needs to utilise a similar transfer strategy to Sir Alex Ferguson at West Ham.
The new Hammers boss has been given little time to have an impact on his side after being appointed with the limited time remaining in the winter window.
Despite securing a 3-2 win in his first home clash against Fulham, the Englishman will still be keen to add to his squad before the deadline on 3 February.
Former Irons midfielder and Brentford manager Allen believes the ex-Brighton boss must be cutthroat with his transfer dealings, in a similar fashion to Ferguson at Manchester United.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “Recruitment would have been discussed in his contract, without a shadow of a doubt.
“If recruitment isn’t good enough for any manager, you don’t win and then you lose your job and recruitment hasn’t been good.
“That team that won the Conference League, it felt like it was at the end of its cycle.
“I think it was necessary for that team to be treated like Sir Alex Ferguson would, dismantled and changed with new key players brought in.
“I don’t think enough changes of quality that have improved West Ham have been made. This needs to be addressed under Potter.“

There is no doubt that changes are needed at the London Stadium, especially after what was a busy transfer window under Julen Lopetegui in the summer.
With the likes of Vladimir Coufal, Aaron Cresswell and Danny Ings still in East London, there are plenty of players who could be on their way out under Potter.

If the 49-year-old is to take a lesson from Ferguson and be harsh in his transfer dealings, there could be a lot of incomings and outgoings in E20 in the coming windows.
In other West Ham news, an insider has revealed that Tim Steidten is once again involved in ‘behind-the-scenes issues’ at the London Stadium.
