Potter sack exclusive: West Ham exit situation speculated after win v Man United

Graham Potter has had an underwhelming start to his stint at West Ham.

Before the clash with Manchester United (11 May), the former Brighton man had won just three of his 16 matches in charge of the Irons.

However, his side put in a great performance at Old Trafford as goals from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen downed the Red Devils.

Potter backed to take West Ham forward

It is safe to say that it has not been the start that Potter expected when he took the vacancy at the London Stadium.

His side have been woeful, with little charge from the turgid tactics that Lopetegui had put together, which led to his dismissal.

TV Commentator Ian Darke believes that the result will be the perfect spark for the Hammers and allow Potter to end the campaign strongly.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “I do think he needed that win, not to keep his job, because I think it is a bit of a free hit for him, this half season that he has been in charge.

“I think people expected a little more than what has happened under him, before the weekend, only the bottom three teams had picked up fewer points that West Ham since he took over.

“That was a big win for them, I think all that West Ham can do now is finish a pretty miserable season on a high note, by making it two or three wins to finish off.

“Then, they can kick on next season.”

West Ham need to give Potter funds

The ex-Chelsea man has been hamstrung by the dismal recruitment under his predecessor, Lopetegui and former sporting director Tim Steidten last summer.

The Hammers’ business last summer and in January.

He has been left with a huge rebuild to complete in the offseason after a woeful summer window last time out, which has seen the likes of Luis Guilherme, Crysencio Summerville and Guido Rodriguez fail to make an impact in East London.

Potter must be given the funds in the market to implement his own players that fit his style and to replace the miserable squad that he inherited, otherwise, he will likely be looking for a new job sooner rather than later.
