Paul Tierney told to report ‘unacceptable’ incident in West Ham loss vs Man City – Exclusive
Keith Hackett has urged referee Paul Tierney to report an “unacceptable” incident that happened during West Ham’s defeat to Manchester City.
West Ham were on the end of a 3-0 loss to Man City in Saturday’s Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium.
Erling Haaland – serenaded by chants from West Ham fans – opened the scoring for City and Tijjani Reijnders scored a second before half-time.
The Hammers produced an improved display early in the second 45, but ultimately conceded another to Haaland in a limp loss.
West Ham players should have been booked for surrounding referee
It was a terrible first-half showing from the Hammers, with the frustration of captain Jarrod Bowen clear to see.
Bowen was booked before half-time for dissent after a decision went against West Ham, but former PGMOL chief Hackett believes more players should have been cautioned.
The West Ham skipper was one of five players to surround Tierney, who constantly tried to usher the others away.
Bowen is in his right to speak to the referee given he is the skipper, but the referee did not want to hear from anyone else.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Hackett said: “The stakeholders, at the start of the season, were advised by the PGMOL that captains would be the conduit for their team and the referee on incidents.
“This lasted days not weeks and the players surrounding the referee in this way is unacceptable. Referees need to apply yellow cards for dissent.
“I hope given this incident that the referee will report that several players surrounded him to question a decision. Referees need to toughen up.”
Pathetic Lucas Paqueta sums West Ham up
West Ham were dreadful at the Etihad Stadium. Only when Man City backed off, almost because of how easy they were finding things, did the Hammers have any sort of joy.
Lucas Paqueta was slammed for a second-half moment in which he stood watching Reijnders, who found the back of the net.

It pretty much sums things up for West Ham right now, with players just simply not giving enough effort.
Nuno Espirito Santo needs to be questioned for switching the formation, seemingly going more attacking on the face of it despite facing Man City.
Ultimately, there are multiple issues at the club and something needs changing fast or else West Ham are going down.
