‘Nuno Espirito Santo could shift dial for West Ham and David Sullivan to spend millions in January’

Nuno Espirito Santo is already looking to the January window to add to his West Ham squad.

Nuno was appointed as West Ham boss in late September and has had a mixed start to life at the London Stadium.

In his first match in charge, West Ham battled well to draw 1-1 with Everton as the away side put in an excellent shift on Merseyside.

His second proved that there is still work to be done as West Ham lost 2-0 to Arsenal in a dominant showing from the Gunners.

Nuno now has his sights set on the upcoming winter transfer window, as he looks to add to his newfound squad in East London.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants transfers to avoid relegation

Nuno’s responsibility will be to avoid relegation with West Ham this season.

The Irons had a terrible start under Graham Potter, and it was no surprise that the Englishman was sacked last month.

There has already been a boost to the general feeling around the claret and blue outfit, even if the former Wolves boss is yet to secure a win.

Three points need to come soon, otherwise the 51-year-old will risk being involved in a Premier League basement battle.

Finance expert Dan Plumley believes the Hammers aren’t struggling financially and could face demands from Nuno to add to his squad in the coming months.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he said: “There were tempered expectations with West Ham in the summer, and I still subscribe to that view.

They’re ok financially against PSR, but they aren’t expected to go out and spend millions, and they didn’t.

A new manager coming in does potentially change that.

That’s not to say that they’ll go completely to the opposite end of the scale and spend hundreds of millions, but Nuno is going to want some additions at some point.

He’s got a couple of months to bed in before that window opens, as always, part of what they spend in January will be dictated by the table at Christmas.

If they’re in and around the bottom three, the need to spend will be higher. That’s always a pivotal time in the season where games come thick and fast.

Nuno shopping list being prepared at West Ham

There are plenty of holes in the West Ham squad as things stand, with David Sullivan possibly more tempted to spend millions for a new manager.

Potter struggled in the midfield area, but it appears that the introduction of Mateus Fernandes and Soungoutou Magassa has helped alleviate this issue.

Nuno could now focus on adding to the forward areas as the E20 outfit struggles to score goals, especially from their number nine options.

West Ham recognised striker options:

The centre-back area may be another place where the new Irons boss looks to improve his squad with the hope of avoiding relegation.

It will be interesting to see how much Sullivan and Co. spend in the winter and how willing they are to back the new manager at the London Stadium.
