Max Kilman expectations set as new contract update emerges at West Ham

Max Kilman has come under heavy scrutiny throughout his time at West Ham

Kilman signed for West Ham from Wolves for £40million in what was seen as a costly move at the time.

The feeling around this deal at the London Stadium hasn’t improved, with Glenn Hoddle recently describing Kilman as “dreadful” at West Ham.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment at West Ham could reignite the defender’s career in E20 due to the relationship between the pair from their time at Wolves.

A prior link to Nuno could be enough to land Kilman a new deal with the Irons, as new expectations have been set for the centre-back.

Max Kilman must improve to land new contract

Kilman put in a positive performance for West Ham against Everton last time out as he retained his place under new management.

Hammers fans have been hoping to see more from the 28-year-old, and it could be the ex-Nottingham Forest boss who unleashes his talents.

A close eye will now be kept on the defender moving forward to see if he can become a consistently excellent player and potentially earn a new deal in East London.

Former Brentford and Leicester City manager Martin Allen believes Kilman has a long way to go before he can prove why he deserves a contract extension in claret and blue.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “He hasn’t impressed anybody this season.

He’s been poor defensively, especially from set plays. He was better against Everton, maybe that’s because he knows Nuno and Nuno knows him.

Before he is offered a new contract, he’s got an awful lot of work to do.

West Ham have conceded the most set-piece goals of anyone in the Premier League. It wasn’t Kilman’s fault, but it was against Crystal Palace.

I think he has a lot more to do; there’s got to be before he can get a new contract.

Kilman still has work to do at West Ham

There are widespread concerns in the defensive line at West Ham after conceding so many goals from set pieces in recent months.

Kilman has come under fire for this, alongside all his defensive colleagues at the London Stadium.

There is now renewed hope that he can turn around his form under Nuno and become an important cog in the Irons’ machine moving forward.

The Englishman still has to prove himself to supporters, but if his performance against Everton is anything to go by, the feeling around him could soon change.
