Julen Lopetegui sack verdict shared as two names emerge for West Ham United replacement
Frank McAvennie wanted West Ham to appoint Jose Mourinho or Thomas Frank when replacing David Moyes during the summer.
David Sullivan had plenty of candidates to choose from, with a recent report revealing he decided against Ruben Amorim due to his lack of Premier League experience [Hammers News], appointing Julen Lopetegui instead.
It is no secret that the Hammers have endured a difficult start to the new campaign, claiming just three wins from their first 10 games, and now McAvennie has revealed which managers he wanted instead.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “Everyone wanted David Moyes out, and I get that it wasn’t good to watch, but he got use results. I fancied Mourihno – I like him. Everyone knows that he’s a winner. He’s thrown his name in the hat again, hasn’t he?
“I also like Brentford’s Thomas Frank. He’s wonderful, but I don’t know if he’d want to leave one London club to go to another. No disrespect, but West Ham are a lot bigger of a team. But as I said, you’ve got to give this new manager a chance.”
West Ham United to appoint Jose Mourinho or Thomas Frank?
Fans are certainly making their feelings well-known about the new head coach, with Lopetegui under more pressure now than ever after the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
While the Hammers have two wins in their last four matches, there is no hiding from the manner of their five league defeats so far, and that is without mentioning the 5-1 loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup.

Sullivan looks to have missed his chance with the aforementioned duo, however, with Frank under no pressure to leave the Gtech Stadium and Mourinho clearly loving life at Fenerbahce.
Sacking Lopetegui just 10 games into the new league campaign would be hugely chaotic for the club, with no sign of who could replace him in the near future, so the Spaniard looks to be safe for now.
