Julen Lopetegui is perfect for Tim Steidten at West Ham United despite ‘hot-headed’ incident

Dan Bardell believes that Julen Lopetgui will suit West Ham United better with Tim Steidten controlling transfers than David Moyes.

The Spaniard took over in the dugout at the London Stadium after the Hammers parted ways with their long-standing manager.

Lopetegui has become the head coach of West Ham which will see Steidten take the majority of the control over transfer dealings.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes that Lopetegui will be more accustomed this new structure given his European background.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “What he will offer them is being more at ease with Tim Steidten and what he’s doing than Moyes was.

Continental coaches are more used to working under that model. That would be a positive.

Lopetegui is quite hot-headed and proved he isn’t afraid to walk out on a team and make decisions to take people by surprise.

From a transfer perspective, he will work better in the new model than Moyes would have.”

New West Ham transfer strategy under Tim Steidten

There was no secret that Steidten and Moyes never quite got on as there was plenty of turmoil between the pair over the years.

After the draw against Liverpool at the London Stadium (27 April) the Scot banned Steidten from entering the dressing room in the stadium and the training ground at Rush Green.

It must be said that the German had the last laugh in the end as Moyes departed and he was basically given control of the football side of the club.

Steidten wanted plenty of January additions last winter but when the manager only wanted Kalvin Phillips it stuck.

Now he has full control of transfers and has already moved to bring Fabricio Bruno [Fabrizio Romano] to the club.

This sort of move probably wouldn’t have happened with Moyes in charge which is maybe why the hierarchy opted for the change.

It is a risky move by the club but could prove to be ideal if next season goes well under Lopetegui.
