Jonathan Rowe will fit perfectly into Graham Potter’s West Ham amid Marseille exit news – Martin Allen
Jonathan Rowe could emerge as a West Ham target before the end of the summer window.
Rowe, 22, was a target for West Ham in his Norwich City days before the versatile forward instead opted to join Marseille last summer.
Since moving to Ligue 1, it has been a mixed bag for Rowe, with a return to England potentially set to be on the cards after a training ground bust-up.
Having clashed with Adrien Rabiot, Roberto De Zerbi’s side wants rid of the England under-21 international, potentially leaving the door open for Graham Potter to swoop in.
This could see the chances of a London Stadium move edge closer as the Irons look to add fresh faces to their squad before the 1 September transfer deadline.
This story includes exclusive comment from former midfielder Martin Allen.
Jonathan Rowe could sign for West Ham after Marseille exit news
There is no hiding away from the fact that West Ham were dismal against Sunderland on opening day and are in need of improvement from the market.
As a result, the Irons need to be aware of these sorts of situations to be able to land top talent on cut-price fees.

Having already shown interest in a Premier League move in 2024, Rowe could now look to make a move to East London to feature under Potter.
This could see the Englishman represent excellent depth for Jarrod Bowen, who was left hugely frustrated after the Sunderland defeat, moving further into the season.
Former Brentford and Leicester City boss Allen believes that the exit-bound Marseille man could be a positive addition in E20 and could thrive under Potter alongside a host of other young talents.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “At the moment, I think West Ham have got to be looking at players who will play every game and are guaranteed to improve them.
“There’s a possibility that Rowe could be a useful player.
“There are young players in the West Ham squad who are at a similar level, and it won’t be long before Potter gives them a proper chance in the first team, so maybe he could fit in there.“

Jonathan Rowe could be stellar under Graham Potter
Despite general struggles in East London, there is no doubt that Potter has continued to get the best out of Bowen in claret and blue.
This is proof that quality players can thrive under the Englishman, despite struggles from the likes of Niclas Fullkrug since joining the Hammers.
That could be seen as a perfect case study for Rowe as he seeks out a new club after an explosive moment at Marseille, which looks likely to be the end of his time in Ligue 1.
This could see the Irons get the best out of the 22-year-old in the Premier League, by utilising his physical attributes, pace and eye for goal.
Jonathan Rowe’s strengths:
- Finishing
- Likes to cut inside
- Gets fouled often
- Likes to dribble
This sort of talent off the flanks and even through the middle could prove to be ideal in claret and blue, especially after a difficult window to this point.
