Jhon Duran Aston Villa goal ‘in the script’ v West Ham as transfer admission shared
Dan Bardell believes it was always in the script for Jhon Duran to score against West Ham for Aston Villa after failing to secure a transfer.
The Colombia international was strongly linked with a move to the London Stadium which even saw him do an Irons gesture on a live stream.
A deal never got completed between the clubs and now the 20-year-old looks set to stay on at Villa Park for the season.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist thinks the Hammers will move on quickly after their long-term target netted against them on the opening day.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “In all honesty, I think West Ham offered a fair price, it got rejected and they went and signed a very good centre-forward from Dortmund.
“It was always in the script that that would end up happening but I think next time West Ham win a game they’ll have forgotten about it.
“It’s just one of those things and football has a way of throwing these things up. As soon as Jhon Duran entered the pitch he had a good chance and could have scored earlier.
“I just think it was a poor loss. West Ham didn’t build on getting back in the game.“
Jhon Duran makes West Ham regret Aston Villa deal
It has to be said that it wasn’t the dream start for Julen Lopetegui in East London, falling to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Villa.
The Hammers were gifted a route back into the game through a controversial penalty but couldn’t make that count in the end.
Duran came back to bite the Irons with the goal which swayed the result in the away side’s favour, nothing less than they deserved on the day.
After being linked with a move to the club so much throughout the window, this was certainly a kick in the teeth for supporters.
Now fans’ hopes ride on the success of Fullkrug who was only afforded a short cameo on the opening day but made his presence clear.
