Jake O’Brien Premier League claim emerges as West Ham United make transfer move
Lyon centre-back Jake O’Brien would not take long to adapt to the Premier League should he join West Ham, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that the 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international’s time at Crystal Palace will have given him a basic understanding and helped him cater to the rigours of the English top flight.
This comes after the Hammers have made a move for the Lyon defender who’s valued at £17million by the French club. [The Athletic, 2 July]
Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said:
“The time at Palace would help him adapt – regardless of the amount of football played – because he was at least exposed to the Premier League directly and saw it up close and personal, along with being exposed to the different conditions.
“He would look to re-adapt by understanding those differences and training to reduce those gaps.
“He would also not come with the same kind of baggage as your average centre-back coming from another league as he’s experienced the intensity in some way.“
West Ham must sign Jake O’Brien this summer
O’Brien would be a valuable addition to the Hammers due to his solid performance in Ligue 1 with Lyon.
His defensive skills and aerial prowess would certainly benefit Julen Lopetegui’s side for next season.
The Republic of Ireland international’s ability to score from set pieces adds an extra dimension to his game, which could benefit the London club in both boxes.
Furthermore, at 23 years old, he has the potential for further development, making him a long-term investment for the club.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a £21m-rated international striker and opening bids have already been made for him.
