‘It’s a hard game’ – Exclusive: McAvennie predicts West Ham v Everton
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes that West Ham will pick up a draw when they travel to Goodison Park to face Everton on Saturday.
The Hammers are winless in four in the Premier League and while their season isn’t in danger of unravelling, a pressure easing win may be needed.
McAvennie doesn’t believe that win will come against the Toffees however as he backed his former side to draw 1-1 on Saturday.
Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “It’s a hard game. I’m going to say 1-1.
“I’ve got a feeling that Everton might sneak it but I’m going to go with my heart and say one each.
“It would be a great result if they get a draw. Everton are fighting for everything. If they get a draw it’d be good.”
Everton are one of the Premier League’s form teams as Carlo Ancelotti’s men are currently on a run of four straight league victories.
As well as this, the Toffees have had a slightly longer break between games heading into their tie with the Hammers.
Their game against Manchester City was postponed at the request of City after the club announced more positive COVID tests.
This means that Everton will be well-rested ahead of the tie at Goodison Park which was already a daunting fixture for the Irons.
There are plenty of positives for Everton going into the game but West Ham will be hungry for a victory and David Moyes’ side cannot be underestimated.
A win would propel the Hammers up the table and back into European contention after a slight wobble in form.
Here’s hoping that Moyes can get one over on his former club.
