Guido Rodriguez update emerges ahead of West Ham United v Aston Villa
West Ham midfielder Guido Rodriguez is unlikely to start against Aston Villa on 17 August, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that while he is not carrying the aftereffects of a setback sustained last season, which is a positive, it may take him some time to adapt to life in the Premier League.
The Hammers signed the 30-year-old Argentina midfielder this summer on a free transfer.
Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said:
“Given the time missed last season, nearly three months, I’d reckon it was a significant injury.
“However, a positive is that he did return and didn’t have any issues.
“With his age, you have to be respectful of any potential wear and tear issues that may have accumulated over the course of his career and take those into account when creating his fitness plan and game minutes.
“I’d expect the club to ease him into for the first few games before relying on him as a regular starting option so he’s likely to make the bench for the opener.”
West Ham must not rush Guido Rodriguez into the playing eleven
Introducing Rodriguez gradually into the starting eleven makes strategic sense as he needs time to adapt to the Premier League’s physicality and pace.
This phased integration allows him to acclimate without the immediate pressure of top performance.

It also gives the coaching staff time to assess his best role within the team’s tactics, whether as a starter or an impact player off the bench.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have now sanctioned the exits of three first-team players after a transfer development over the weekend.
