David Moyes has a big selection dilemma ahead of West Ham United’s Premier League clash with Chelsea and Frank McAvennie thinks he has the answer.

French defender Issa Diop has joined Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna on the treatment table and he may even be out for the season according to ExWHUEmployee via his Patreon account.

That leaves just Craig Dawson as the only fit senior centre-half available to Moyes and that gives him quite the headache before another crucial run of games.

Ex-Hammer McAvennie though wants to see Declan Rice drop back from midfield to centre-half to help out his side when they head to Stamford Bridge at the weekend.

“I don’t know who else he’s got,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone. “He might have to rely on Declan back there. He can do a job there and that’s what good players can do.

“As a midfield player he’s the best in the business but would he want to drop him? It’ll be interesting to see what happens this week in that regard.”

Under-23s ace Aji Alese has been another name touted around for a start having impressed in the academy this season but it would be a major risk to throw him into such a game.

They’ve also got a Europa League semi-final to think about with Eintracht Frankfurt arriving in the capital on Thursday and putting an inexperienced youngster into such a game is an incredibly risky thing to do.

Moyes has to come up with some sort of answer and fast though because the games won’t wait for anyone.

In other West Ham news, an Irons target has been urged to reject any approach for his services to stay in the EFL for another season.
