Frank McAvennie predicts West Ham clash v Arsenal

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie predicts West Ham will bounce back to winning ways by beating Arsenal at the London Stadium on Sunday.

David Moyes’ men have lost two of their last three matches after suffering defeats at the hands of both Manchester City and Manchester United, who beat the Irons 1-0 at Old Trafford last week.

Arsenal, on the other hand, have shown an improvement in their recent form by winning seven points out of the last nine available to them, beating Leicester and Tottenham in the process.

West Ham have lost their last three matches against Arsenal but McAvennie believes they will have enough to beat Mikel Arteta’s men this weekend.

“I’m going to go with 2-1 to West Ham,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone exclusively.

“Sunday will be a great day with Celtic versus Rangers and West Ham versus Arsenal.”

West Ham’s poor record against Arsenal goes back further than just three games.

The Hammers have beaten the North London club in just two of their last 27 meetings across all competitions.

We’ve been heavily beaten in some of those matches too, losing 5-1 twice.

Arteta’s side have started to pick up a bit of form and it will no doubt be tough to stop them in their tracks after beating local rivals Tottenham last week.

West Ham’s record versus the Premier League’s traditional big-six this season has been pretty shocking so it would be great if the Irons can prove McAvennie right and earn all three points to put us level in the table with fourth-placed Chelsea.
