Frank McAvennie blown away by Tomas Soucek for West Ham this week

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie has been blown away by the toughness of West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek this week.

The Czech international was forced to undergo plastic surgery this week after taking a boot to the face, but still started the Europa League win over Genk after.

McAvennie insisted it was “unbelievable” to watch Soucek start, and believes not many others in the Premier League would have done that.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “These boys don’t care, do they? They’ve just not got any fear.

“Again, it’s so easy to see that boy play. So many players in the division wouldn’t have done that – these big so-called stars.

“You’ve got to give credit, these are the sort of players I like, Soucek – unbelievable. They just love it and they want to play, that’s a great attitude.”

Wow.

There is a reason why Soucek is a real fan favourite at the London Stadium, and he just added to that on Thursday.

No one will have complained should the Czech warrior have been rested against Genk, but instead, he threw himself into the deep end.

David Moyes was also very complimentary, and he should be fine to start again in the crunch clash with Spurs tomorrow.

Having not been as active in the final third this season compared to last, hopefully this bravery can be rewarded with a big goal in the London derby.
