Frank McAvennie reacts as West Ham- Kurt Zouma talks progress
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
West Ham appear to be inching ever closer to a deal for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma, though Frank McAvennie has cast doubts over the 26-year-old’s Irons desire.
The France international has been heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium in recent weeks, and there have been conflicting reports as the potential deal has been swinging between off and on.
However, it does appear that Zouma is set to sign for David Moyes’ side with Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claiming via his personal Twitter profile on Thursday [26/08/21] that paperwork had been completed between the London rivals.
Speaking before that news was delivered, ex-Irons attacker McAvennie revealed what he had heard about Zouma amid intensifying talks.
“That’s been growing,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.
“Somebody told me he doesn’t want to play for West Ham, which is a bit of a blow if that’s the case.
“It’s a hard time for West Ham, I hope it’s [potential takeover] not going to affect players coming in because there’s the takeover bid and all that stuff, maybe the ownership won’t want to spend any money in case they get bought out, there’s always a danger of that.”

All in now.
Perhaps Zouma has held slight reservations in recent weeks about joining the Irons – that wouldn’t be the most surprising thing in the world.
He’s currently contracted to the reigning European champions who look set to challenge for the Premier League title this season.
Who could blame him for deliberating over whether to leave them for a West Ham side who are yet to make a senior outfield signing with less than a week of the transfer window remaining?
But it looks like he has been convinced of the plan in place by Moyes, and the east London club’s sensational start to the season may have helped matters as well.
The Irons sit top of the table after two games following heavy wins over Newcastle United [4-2] and Leicester City [4-1], and they look set for another big season after finishing sixth last year.
